5 Ways to Save on Car Maintenance

Check Engine Light - Always Pay Attention to It!

You don’t have to be an expert about vehicle repairs and maintenance, but by knowing a few things about how the industry works, you might be able to save a few bucks here and there. Here at Brewer Airport Toyota Auto Repair Service, we want your car continually performing at a high level, so here are some suggestions that might save you some grief either now or in the future.

1.) Keep Your Eyes Open for those Warning Signs

Signs, signs—evrywhere there are signs, but are you paying attention? Too many people see the engine light and decide to ignore it, but that sometimes turns out to be an unwise move. If your Check Engine light appears, always get it checked within a few days, minimum.

As a tip, sometimes, the engine light will come on if your gas cap is not properly sealed. So, look at that and screw it in firmly, just to determine if that they may be the cause. A loss of cap pressure can cause the engine light to illuminate with many cars.

2.) Keep Your Car Tires Properly Inflated

Bypass some major drama down the road by continually keeping your tires correctly inflated. Your vehicle will run better and you’ll get superior gas mileage as a result. Many folks don’t even look at them, but all four tires are specifically designed to work in conjunction to make your car drive right.

3.) Periodically Monitor Your Fluids and Keep Your Car Clean

Each of your car's fluids need to be checked on a regular basis, because they are all vital for the health of your car. Battery acid from poorly maintained batteries can destroy an expensive wiring harness in a millisecond—a common scenario. The quickest way prevent this is to simply rinse the battery with a garden hose. Engine mounts, suspension bushings and steering racks will fail if not cleaned on a regular basis.

4.) Know Your Vehicle Inside and Out

When you get your car, always study its Scheduled Maintenance Guide and owner’s manual. This tells you when maintenance is recommended by the manufacturer. Sticking to that schedule is imperative, so make it a priority and keep your car on the road.Bring In Your Car Regularly for Maintenance

5.) Find a Service Department You Can Trust

Poll your family members, colleagues, friends and associates to find out the best service department in your area. Remember that if you want the finest repair, go to the dealership that either sold you the car or sells the same brand. A good service department should have certified technicians on staff that are highly experienced and fully trained to work on your specific type of car. A solid dealership technician will have certifications in one or more of eight car repair areas, such as brakes, steering and suspension, or engines. So, always ask to see their certifications whenever working with any dealership service department.

For all of our clients here in Brewer Airport Toyota Auto Repair Service or throughout the state of PA, we always advise them to stay on top of their car's maintenance, in oder to have a happy and healthy vehicle for many years to come.
