Rajeev told me the secondary air injector was bad and that the tab, including the initial $245 diagnostic, would be about $640. Later Rajeev told me the bill would be a little over $600. When I picked the vehicle up, Rajeev told me the injector and labor were under warranty. That led me to believe my bill would be $245. But I was next told I owed for the diagnostic test and a tuneup. I had never been told anything about a tuneup. Instead of being the original $640, or the $245 I expected due the warranty work, Rajeev said I owed $730.
I pointed out I’d been told the bill would be a little over $600. Rajeev did not reply.
I signed the forms that should have been signed in the beginning, approving the work, and I paid the bill.
According to the diagnostic report attached to the bill, the diagnostic check showed that new spark plugs were needed at $150 when I can buy them for $70.
I should have been told about the diagnostic report up front, after all, I was paying for it. I never would have authorized it had I’d known about it before hand, particularly with a $330 labor charge and overpriced plugs for something I can do myself.
Additionally, a tuneup should include inspecting the ignition coils, which wasn’t done per the invoice; cleaning the throttle body - not done; and replacing the engine’s air filter - also not done. So I was told I was paying for something that wasn’t done and I was only paying for a spark plug change.
On top of paying just shy of $500 more than I had any reason to anticipate,
Rajeev spelled my name and town wrong despite my spelling them for him at least twice in the shop and I think once on the phone.
Also, he incorrectly described my problem to include the engine shutting off by itself. I never told him that and when he described the problem back to me, I told him that it was wrong, the engine did not shut off. He made a note and said he’d correct it. He did not. I don’t know whether or not that had any bearing on the technician saying new plugs were needed.
Rajeev seems like a nice enough guy, but I feel as though I was taken for just shy of $500 due to work being done that I knew nothing about.
He was very understanding and helpful
