My appointment was for a multipoint inspection and tire rotation. I received an email about a recall on tires with the DOT date 4025 (if I remember the date correctly) clearly stating tires with these dates would be REPLACED. I called and added this to my already existing appointment with no issue. Upon arrival, the service advisor didn’t mention anything about the recall so I asked if it was added onto my appointment. He looked back at his iPad and said oh yeah I see it right here. He then told me that the recall consists of only checking the tread depth on the tires and if they are good then they don’t need to be replaced. So I showed him the recall stating that tires with the DOT dates must be replaced. He continued to try to convince me that they only have to check the tread depth. To which I told him if they aren’t going to perform the recall, I would need a written and signed acknowledgement of them being aware of the recall but not performing it. At this point he started to stumble over his words and was clearly not confident or sure how to handle the situation. He again tried to assure me that it’s just checking the tread depth. He then told me to go inside with him to go over how long everything would take. It was at this point he says “actually can I see your phone to show the recall to my boss?”. I gave him the phone and overheard his boss tell him what I had been trying to tell him from the beginning. ALL TIRES WITH THAT DATE MUST BE REPLACED. He then comes out and tells me that he has to go check my tires dates. He runs out and runs back and tells me that 3 out of 4 tires are going to be replaced. He tells me that the car will be done in about 90 minutes and that I can wait in the lobby. But I’m not an idiot, I can already see how this place operates and decide I will go home. My appointment was at 8am. At about 10:15am he calls me and says “we only have two of your tires in stock, we are having the 3rd delivered and your car will be ready by 4:00pm”. Alright, it is what it is. At 3:45pm he calls and tells me that they just got my 3rd tire and the car won’t be ready until tomorrow morning. At this point I’m fed up with the incompetence of your employee and of your service center. I let him know that doesn’t work for me. I have to leave for work at 5am and I will need a loaner vehicle. He says ok let me check if we have one. Calls back 5 minutes later saying they have one but the rental is $25/day. I tell him that I won’t be paying anything considering this was supposed to be a 90 minute appointment and it will take over an entire day. I ask him what our options are from here and he tells me there are none. He says that’s the price of the rental and he can’t do anything. I ask him if he has spoke to his boss about this, he says no, and I tell him he should get off the phone with me and go talk to his boss. He calls back 5 minutes later and says “oh actually your rental is covered by your warranty”. Absolutely ridiculous! 1) your service advisors should be aware of recalls and what they consist of. Especially once the customer has shown it to them. Yet he still tried to convince me it was only a tread depth measurement. 2) how does a dealership service center only have two tires in stock?? Especially when you are aware there is a recall on said tires! 3) if you are unable to complete a simple inspection and tire change in an entire day, you should’ve been calling me to offer a free loaner vehicle from the jump. And had I not told him to go talk to his boss, would he have just made me pay for a loaner vehicle even though it was “covered by my warranty” or was that just something he said to take the blame off his inability to solve problems and incompetence. Unfortunately it falls on the service advisors and makes him look like he’s poor at his job but in reality I’m sure it is the fault of poor training and management.
