We took our car in for an oil change, new battery and a wiper replacement. This service was good!
However, I also believed my coolant system had a leak, as I had to fill the reservoir the day before. I was told by Ted Stark when he called my radiator had a small crack in it and needed to be replaced at an estimate of $1800. Based upon the cost, I elected to have my own mechanic at a savings of $750. When I took it to him today, there was no crack in the radiator and it did not have to be replaced. Instead, the leak was caused by a leaky water pump, which I replaced for $850.
I can only imagine I would have spent $1800 I wouldn’t have needed to spend, then spend another $1200 for a water pump (at your cost) after the leak which would not have been fixed with a new $1800 radiator.
Essentially, I would have spent $3000, instead of $850. This experience doesn’t give me much confidence on your “expert mechanic” (not Ted) who originally diagnosed the problem. I hope the mistake was not purposeful, but rather inexperience or incompetence? I’m glad I went with my gut on this one! Dennis V
