I wanted to share my experience from my recent visit to your service department regarding my daughter Kaitlyn’s new Chevy Trax, which was brought in on April 22 to complete a due bill for a scratch repair, interior stains (on the back seat and dashboard), and installation of floor mats.
When I arrived that morning, I was assigned to Derek as my service advisor. From the start, Derek seemed disinterested, disengaged, and frankly unwelcoming. I brushed it off initially, assuming it was just an early morning slump, and proceeded to walk him through the specific items that needed to be addressed. He confirmed he understood everything and mentioned a rental car, which I declined since the work was only supposed to take the day. I had scheduled this appointment specifically for April 22 because I was told the floor mats would be in by that date, and I wanted everything done in one visit.
Later that day, Derek called to say the floor mats had not arrived, though they would be in the next day. I was disappointed, as I had waited to schedule this visit specifically around the floor mat arrival, but I agreed to leave the car overnight. He assured me everything else had been completed, and that I’d be happy with the results.
On Wednesday afternoon, he called to say the car was ready. I couldn’t pick it up that day and asked if I could come in the next morning. He responded with visible irritation and stated I had a rental and needed to return it. I reminded him that I didn’t take a rental, at which point he backtracked and said it would be fine to pick it up the next day.
When I arrived Thursday morning to retrieve the vehicle, I was sent to get the keys but wasn’t told where the car was parked. When Derek came out, he didn’t greet me or say a word—he simply walked off ahead of me without explanation, expecting me to follow. The car was dirty from sitting outside, and when I asked if he could wipe it down so I could inspect the repair, he made no effort to assist. I wiped the car down myself with my hands.
Upon inspection, I noticed:
• The original scratch appeared to be gone.
• However, there was a new scratch on the driver’s side that had not been there before.
• The stain on the back seat was still visible.
• The dashboard stain was also still present.
When I pointed this out, Derek ignored me. I had specifically asked him the day before if the stains were fully removed and he assured me that “everything looks great.” Clearly, he hadn’t checked. He took the keys and told me to wait inside.
After about 10 minutes, he came back, again with no greeting or explanation—just stood silently and expected me to follow. When he handed me the keys, he said, “that’s the best I could do.” I asked about the remaining stain, and he said the ring would “go away over time,” and if it came back, I’d need to bring the car in again. Then he walked away without another word.
Still unsure of the status, I went back inside and fortunately ran into Doug, the service manager. Doug was professional, empathetic, and proactive. He personally ensured the new scratch was buffed out, had the interior stains properly addressed, filled the gas tank, and even had the car delivered to my house that same afternoon.
Doug was also extremely transparent with me. He reviewed the work order Derek had submitted and pointed out that Derek had never even listed the stain on the back seat or the dashboard as part of the service request. In fact, the only item on the work order was the scratch on the rear driver side. Not even the floor mats were listed, which explained why so many items were left undone.
While I’m ultimately satisfied with the end result thanks to Doug, I have to express how unacceptable Derek’s behavior and lack of follow-through was throughout the entire experience. I have never been treated so poorly by a service advisor—disengaged, dismissive, and bordering on hostile. I also suspect that because this was a due bill item (with no commission involved), I was treated with even less regard.
I’ve made it clear to Doug, and I would like it noted in my file, that I never wish to be assigned to Derek again for any future visits. I truly hope this feedback is taken seriously, because no customer should be made to feel dismissed, uncomfortable, or disrespected—especially when simply following through on what was promised at the time of purchase.
