Let me start with saying, great work. The vehicle looks amazing. However, my complaint is that not 100% of the vehicle was done. There are still spots of paint chipping off the rear tailgate, corners of the light assembly areas. And the gas door.

NiiVale Derryn Hinch: The Bloke Who Went to Prison So Ped@philes Couldn't Hide
Derryn Hinch died last night at home, 82 years old, after a long run of health battles that would have killed a lesser bastard three times over. Hell, one of them nearly did. He got a terminal cancer diagnosis in 2011, was given twelve months to live, got a liver transplant instead, and then spent the next fifteen years being exactly as loud as he'd always been. Good innings doesn't cover it. That's a bloke who batted through two declarations.
Here's what you need to understand about Hinch if you're reading this from the States. Australia has strict suppression orders and contempt laws, and Hinch looked at those laws, looked at the pedophiles hiding behind them, and said no. He was convicted of contempt of court three times, serving two prison sentences and one stint of home detention. In 1987 he did 12 days in prison and copped a $15,000 fine for publicly revealing a ped@phile Catholic priest's prior conviction while a trial was pending. He didn't leak it anonymously. He didn't hint at it. He said the name, on air, knowing exactly what it would cost him, and then he paid the bill.
Most journalists talk about speaking truth to power. Hinch went to jail for it. Repeatedly. In his seventies.
And then, because apparently exposing them one at a time wasn't efficient enough, he got himself elected to the Senate and went after the whole rotten industry. The government brought in world-first legislation to protect kids in our region from child s3x tourism, and Hinch was the engine behind it. Around 20,000 registered offenders lost their passports, with roughly 2,500 more added every year. He called the trips these grubs were taking exactly what they were:
"Child r@pe holidays."
No focus-grouped language. No "concerning patterns of travel." Child r@pe holidays. That's why people trusted him. And when someone raised the civil liberties angle, his answer was that when you r@pe a child, you lose some of your civil rights. Hard to argue. Nobody sensible tried.
Within months of the law kicking in, a convicted child s3x offender got turned back at Sydney Airport, and Hinch called it a proud moment. Twenty thousand grounded predators is a hell of a legacy line for the obituary.
A few weeks before Derryn died, I had a long conversation with Glenn Druery, the Preference Whisperer, the strategist who got Hinch elected to the Senate and then served as his chief of staff. And something he said stuck with me. People assume a crossbench senator outside the major parties has no real swing, no muscle, no way to actually move the machine. Druery's point was the opposite: some genuine good does come out of politics, even for the outsiders. Especially for the outsiders. Hinch got that passport law through the Senate when plenty of career politicians with whole party rooms behind them couldn't have. Druery told me they both worked bloody hard getting it across the line, and that when it passed, it was one of those rare moments in politics where you get a full sense of accomplishment for every hour of graft you put in. A triumphant moment, he called it. He wasn't wrong. Most people leave Canberra with a pension and a portrait. Hinch left with 20,000 predators grounded.
The context that makes it land harder: Hinch was m@lested as a child himself. He knew what he was fighting from the inside. Some blokes bury that. He turned it into a battering ram and swung it for fifty years.
Was he a perfect saint? No. He was a ****-stirrer, an ego on legs, a man who married more times than most of us renew our rego, and he'd have been the first to tell you all of it, at length, on air. But he was on the right side of the one fight that matters most, and he stayed on it when it cost him his freedom, his money, and very nearly his life.
Elected to the Senate at 72, the oldest first-timer in Australian parliamentary history. Jailed in his forties, his seventies looming. Still posting his bloody Wordle scores between hospital updates. The Human Headline to the last edition.
Rest easy, you magnificent old bastard. The kids you protected will never know your name, and that's the point. That's the job done properly.
