I had my 2010 Audi Q5 towed to the Fort Lauderdale dealership. I knew The starter was shot and potentially the battery. The $650 charge to put the car up on the lift was bad enough but then the cost to just replace the starter and was told the battery was ruined was an additional $2800. I am on my 7th Audi - have a brand new 2021 Q5 - and I have been blown away how many times the service- once it is out of warranty - has been horrible - in this case- I asked my mechanic in CT what this would have cost for him to fix it- based on your assessment - and giving him the VIN - and he said at worst - $1,500 - and that is only if the battery really is dead. So I had it towed to another service group - after full assessment - they said the battery was fine - and the starter was replaced and it costs a grand total of $890 !!’ So I’m disgusted by the handling of this. It’s horrible - I have been a loyal Audi owner - as I said - on my 7th Audi - the cars are amazing - but once you are no longer under warranty - It’s a total rip off and embarrassing for Audi Service- it’s why I have an awesome mechanic - who has worked on every one of my Audi’s once out of warranty as and it costs at the least 50% less. This incident was the worst of all. My son - Who is 24 with barely any money is who drives the car - He could not afford this - Thank God I was able to find someone else to fix it or it would have cleaned out his savings - service department should be ashamed.
