I called before taking my car to the dealer for prices on key replacement. I was clear, I had the fob, but the key was broken and I was missing the replacement key. I was told that replacement key without fob would cost parts+$600 for labor and fob key, but if they could retrieve code from the fob, it would be less. I was clear in saying I didn't care about having a key with fob and that a regular key was fine. Was told the cost was $66+whatever cost for code, around $200. I arrived at dealer and told David about my situation, explaining that over the phone someone at Northridge had given me an estimate, that I only needed the most basic key as I didn't want spend too much money, and that hopefully they'd be able to get the cost from the fob to get the price down. I sat in the waiting area, David sat besides me and told me the broken fob was badly damaged but luckily they had been able to retrieve the code. He gave a price, which I misheard as $168, and I repeated that price for him as the total. I was happy thinking the price was way below what I expected, but at payment, I was told the costs of the key exceeded $400, I was flabbergasted and was ready to leave until I was given at least the install payment option. Still I feel that there was a gross lack of communication, and a written quote should have been provided from the get-go, to avoid this type of situations. I seriously feel like I overpaid for a key with fob, which wasn't what I even asked for.
