I’m writing to formally express my serious concern and disappointment regarding how my vehicle was handled at your Murray, KY Toyota service center.
I brought in my 2023 Toyota RAV4 (2T3P1RFV5PW378114) for diagnosis after it was mistakenly fueled with diesel. Your team provided a diagnosis suggesting spark plug damage and possible engine failure, and even went so far as to recommend a complete engine replacement with a used engine with no warranty.
I had the car towed to another certified Toyota dealership for a second opinion. Upon inspection, they found that your service team had not even drained or cleaned the diesel out of the fuel system — a basic and necessary first step. This failure to perform standard protocol is the likely reason the car wasn’t starting.
Additionally, the second dealership confirmed that:
• The spark plugs are in good condition.
• There are no signs of catastrophic engine damage.
• They estimate the car can be running after approximately 3 hours of labor and a sensor replacement, which is vastly different from what I was told.
I paid your dealership for diagnostics under the expectation that a proper inspection would be done. Instead, I was misled and nearly moved forward with an unnecessary, expensive engine replacement that could have cost thousands.
I am requesting:
1. A full refund of the diagnostic fee I was charged.
2. A written explanation of why proper fuel contamination protocols were not followed.
3. An internal review of this incident and assurances that this will be escalated appropriately.
