Dieselgate Perpetrator's Appeal Denied

Rupert Stadler, the former of Audi remains in custody after a Munich court determined that it is highly likely that he knew about the emission testing manipulation while continuing to sell affected models. He was originally arrested on June 18th of this year.

The crux of "dieselgate" is software programed into Audi and Volkswagen models that intentionally only triggered during testing, providing reported emission levels. When not being tested, models would pump out almost fifty times more toxic chemicals. It was discovered by the US EPA and they immediately issued a notice of violation of the Clean Air Act. 

The end result was a $25 million fine for Volkswagen and the imprisonment of Rupert Stadler.

Audi and its parent company Volkswagen have denied that their leadership had any knowledge of the manipulation, but investigations that have been ongoing since 2015 have found evidence to the contrary.
