GM Orders Another In A Series Of Recalls
General Motors has recent issued another recall, but this time it affects some of their newest products. A serious defect has been identified in the braking systems of ten models, including 2018-2019 Bolts, Cruzes, Impalas, Volts, GMC Terrains, Buick Lacrosses, and the 2018 Chevy Malibu. Potentially the recall could be an issue with more than 210,000 individual vehicles. As with all recalls, our partners at Magness Toyota Auto Repair Service here in Harrison, AR urge those who have received notices to act quickly to get the issue resolved.
GM has stated that the issue lies within the brake assembly, where hydrogen gas can become trapped within the pistons. This can lead to a soft feeling while braking and a severe loss of braking ability.
It was first noted when an employee failed one model in a pre-delivery inspection, citing the soft-braking issue. An investigation was launched, and it was determined that parts were improperly tempered and chromed by one of their suppliers.
Stop sales have been initiated by dealerships on affected models until they can all be addressed. Be sure to check with your local dealership to see if you have a vehicle that could be affected.
