I am never buying a Toyota again. We have purchased 4 Toyotas in 20 years. I like the cars but refuse to give the dealerships my money anymore. The recall notice for the fuel pump wasn’t specific and did not give any instruction that the tank needed to be 1/4 full to do the repair. I did not receive any special instructions prior to dropping it off the first time. I was told to keep driving it to get the fuel to the 1/4 tank level. The vehicle subsequently broke down on the highway(stalled at high speed). I got a tow with a 1/2 tank of gas still in it. They did the repair and I got it back still with a half tank of gas in it. How? I would seriously like to know. Did the mechanics actually have the ability to pump the gas out and do the repair the first time and lied about it needing to be 1/4 tank full? When I picked it up this time I was told the battery was bad and needed to be replaced. That the fuel pump is fixed but the battery was the reason it won’t start. How did it start and allow me to drive it on the highway and the. Stall at high speeds? The battery was replaced in the fall of 2024. There is a date on it. The vehicle also started right up in your parking lot after I was told it would need a jump if I wasn’t going to replace the battery today. I will be honest and say they when I first called about scheduling the recall appointment I asked if my normal mechanic where the vehicle was at already could just do the repair. I was told no that it would be too complicated and I don’t want to do that. I said “ ugh, I hate taking it to dealers”, agreed to Monday at 8am and hung up. When I arrived Channel remembered me and said I was mean on the phone. I apologized, we had a back and forth that was cordial and I felt fine about everything when I left. I listened to the BS about the 1/4 tank and did what was advised. I certainly hope none of the action and decisions that have taken place were done in malice or with ill intent because I was “mean”. I am going to choose to believe they were not. However I will move on from Toyotas. The next 20 years of my life my over $120,000, will be spent with another company. My word of mouth will also be spent telling this story to anyone in the market for a car who will listen. It already has. People find it laughable that mechanics at a dealership doesn’t have the means to pump gas out of a tank, what a joke. It’s cool, I do believe in Karma. I was a little short with Channel that day on the phone. I can except that I may have deserved a bit of what came the following week. To a corporate giant like Toyota my 120,000 over the next 20 years might not mean a thing. It will mean something to little old me and my family though. Have a great day!
