Ford Issues Nearly 550,000 Vehicle Global Recall On Fusion And Escape Lines

Faulty Bushing to Blame for Rollaway Concerns

Of the nearly 550,000 vehicles affected by Ford's latest recall, more than half a million of those were issued in the U.S. The remaining vehicles were sold in Mexico and Canada, Ford says. 

The recall specifically applies to certain 2013 to 2016 Fusions and 2013 to 2014 Escapes, ans the problem lies with a small bushing that is responsible for holding the vehicle's shifter in the proper position. The bushings installed may fail under certain conditions, de-positioning itself and indicating that the transmission is in one position when it is in fact in another. 

In short, a scenario make occur as such: A driver parks on an incline.  They place the car in what they believe is park. The indicator shows that the car is in fact in park, but in actuality it is in neutral. The driver steps out of the vehicle only to find that it is rolling backward.
