I took my vehicle in for diagnostics because I was having a strange vibration at idle when the ac ran and a drop in rpms while it happened. My entire ac was replaced and some sort of update was preformed to try to stop it. While I am happy that my vehicle was repaired and that it was done well, none of this actually fixed the issue I was talking about. I asked for specific things to be checked such as the spark plugs and the motor mounts and the fuel system. I was told all were fine. Over the weekend, I purchased 4 coil packs and 4 NGK laser iridium spark plugs. I just had a really strong gut feeling those were the issue. My alternator and battery tested fine at home, and my ac had already been replaced, therefor it wasn't the issue. One by one, I pulled horrifically damaged coil packs out of my vehicle. I'm quite sure they were a minimum of 10 years old. They were dry rotted, falling apart, and were absolutely filthy. I then removed each spark plug. One was missing a tip, and the middle two were charred to all hell and caked in oil, the first one was still usable but in questionable condition. Upon changing all 4 coil packs and all 4 spark plugs, the car now runs like it's brand new. Interior lights that I thought had burned out long ago sprung back to life, there was no dimming of headlights when the ac kicked on, the rpms were no longer dropping, the car seems slightly faster and I can already see a massive difference in fuel consumption. Mainly the coil packs (but also the spark plugs) were in such atrocious condition that the poor car struggled to power itself. It is absolutely no wonder I was experiencing issues when the ac was kicking on, it was probably unable to handle the extra load. I am not only shocked that no one there caught it, but also no one anywhere in the last few years caught it either. Had one person simply looked at any of the 4 coil packs with their eyes, it would have been crystal clear those had to go. Instead, I spent 4 hours using subpar tools in my garage listening to my disabled dad, who suffered a massive stroke 6 months ago, yell instructions because he couldn't physically help me, but knew how to do it. I appreciate the work Vatland has done, but ultimately that didn't fix the issue. Perhaps I was not specific enough in my description of the issue, or maybe no one thought to check them and assumed they were fine since the car still ran. Though I am, by no means, an expert, I can assure you they were bad simply based on the fact that it stopped having the issue and now runs 100 times better. My service advisor Michael was awesome, he is absolutely not the one to blame. He was not the one physically working on my vehicle.
