I paid $170 to not have a service tech actually look at my car. All they did was run the codes and assume that whatever popped up was the problem. "Engine coolant overtemperature" was the dashboard light that litnwhen I was driving. I was told it was a transmission issue requiring a complete replacement which would have been $7830. We (myself, Dad, regular service guys) were all skeptical of that result, so we towed my car back to our regular service crew at Moffit's Ford (I was on a road trip and Lindquist was the closest Ford service garage near me when my light came on) and they checked it over and worked on it and called me confused because they couldn't find anything wrong with it and they didn't know why I had dropped it off. No codes, no issues with the car running after at least thirty minutes of driving, nothing. I also paid their diagnostic fee ($160), and they said to drive it normally and if something pops up to bring it back in and they will check it again for free for failing to find anything to first time. Nothing has gone wrong since. What they're thinking is that I ran thr car too hard/fast on too hot of a day (93°/95°) for too long (3 hours nonstop) and the system just got too warm to properly cool itself down. Slower driving, cooler days, stopping for breaks would have avoided everything. If I had trusted Lindquist, I would have paid nearly $8000 for no reason. While I understand parts fail over time (slowly or all at once), it is extremely irresponsible of a service garage to not properly look at a vehicle and rely solely on a computer to tell them what might be wrong. Parts replacement service (hoping for commissions) is not the same as diagnosing a problem and fixing it.
