Awful communication and coordination. Could not reach anyone in service when I called both days. Did not know when texted whether when texted back would my text go to the service writer? Which communication method are we using? Be clear about this
Then, told, "We can't find anything wrong w/ vehicle over the phone, and we are sending the driver." Driver calls, we establish my address. Then, texted, "Oh, there may actually be a problem w/ the starter in the future..." Had to call driver and cancel. Tried calling back. Crickets. Is anyone there to actually answer the phone and speak, directly, with your customers? Hire another person or people to answer the phone. Or, just use text and be clear about this. Why would you give back a vehicle, brought in w/ known starter issues, to a woman who works late at night in Riverside and weighs less than 100lbs?! Insanity.
Then, told fixed, and driver coming. An hour later call and ask ETA on the driver. No idea said the customer service person. Got picked up about a half hour after that. Then, went to pick up the vehicle, paid, and sent outside to give paperwork/receipt over to get keys. Waited outside for over five minutes. No one addressed my presence or asked, "Can I help you?" Again, crickets. Ignoring the customer. Had to go inside and ask, "Hey, how do I get my car?" Finally got it and let the poor guy know how bad the whole experience was.
Suggestions:
1. Listen to the customer and take their concerns seriously. The car was brought in w/ a concern about how it started, and the customer clearly gave symptoms commensurate w/ a potential starter issue.
2. Hire one or two more people to answer the phone. OR, decide that you are going to use assynchronous communication like text/email and be responsive to this form of communication, and clear with your customers that this is what you will use.
3. Acknowledge the customer and ask, "Have you been helped?" or, "How can I help you?" Do this especially when the customer follows your instructions. Otherwise, the "smart" customer learns NOT to follow instructions, because following instructions results in poor service. Make a fuss = get service; follow instructions = no service. Which would you choose?
4. If you are going to offer complimentary shuttle service, contract w/ Uber or Lyft to shuttle your customers around. I take our other car to another dealer that does this (and used to have a hired driver/shuttle). Works beautifully and much better. Very little waiting for the customer either coming or going to the dealership. It is probably cheaper for the dealer, too, given all the employment taxes and employment laws that are "Commiefornia".
Not sure that I would at this time recomment Corona Honda for service. It used to be "pretty good". But, this has honestly been my worst experience getting a car repaired in ten or more years. Maybe ever.
