Best 5 Driving Vacations in the West

If you’re considering taking a road trip in the western part of the United States, there are many areas to choose from that will appeal to the entire family. They are all memorable in their own way.

Here are five of the best, brought to you by G Stone Motors Inc, because every once in a while we like to get out of Middlebury, VT and see the rest of the world!

1.) California Wine Country

Napa Valley and Sonoma Valley are world-class destinations to visit. Driving through this area of the country, you’ll see tall redwoods and panoramic views. There are a variety of wineries to stop in for a tasting or tour. In addition, you can hike and bike, take a hot air balloon ride or go to the mineral hot springs. The wine country also has some of the best food around with many notable restaurants that book up months in advance. If you decide to experience some wine tasting, remember not to drink and drive.

2.) National Parks

If you love nature and a beautiful view—who doesn’t—then you might want to consider traveling down U.S. Route 89 where you’ll have an opportunity to see six national parks along the way. They include Yellowstone, Yosemite, Glacier National Park, Zion, Bryce Canyon and the Grand Canyon. Whether you like to go mountain climbing, hiking, biking or just enjoy an amazing view, this trip has it all.

3.) American Southwest in Arizona

If you are considering an adventure through the Southwest, you won’t be disappointed. The spiritual area of Sedona, Arizona, is known for its red rock formations and Native American sites. Throughout your journey through the southwest, there are canyons, ranches, and of course bison. If you happen to stop at a trading post, you’ll find Hopi and Navajo art, rugs, jewelry and pottery. Consider picking up a cowboy hat to complete your journey.

4.) Olympic Peninsula

In the northwest part of Washington state, you’ll find a blend of climates and natural wonders. The Olympic National Park and Olympic National Forest sit in the center of Olympic Peninsula. Starting in Seattle, you’ll see snow-topped peaks of the Olympias. Along the way, there are rain forests, logging towns and many parks and natural lakes for fishing. Festivals and museums are part of the area's cultural history.

5.) Rocky Mountains

During a road trip through the Rocky Mountains, you’ll witness scenic lakes, horseback riders, and snowcapped mountains. Starting out in northern Colorado, you’ll travel through the Rocky Mountain National Park to southeastern Wyoming. Don’t be surprised to find cattle as well as an abundance of wildlife including elk, moose and pronghorn. Your backdrop will be filled with tall cottonwood trees, sage brush and ranches.

Wherever you decide to go on your journey, you’ll be assured of having a taste of the west.
