Apple Changes Course On Project Titan

Apple Changes Course On Project Titan

In 2014 Apple began working in secret on "Project Titan," an ambitious delve into the world of autonomous vehicles. At its peak there were upwards of 1,000 employees working on it near Apple's Cupertino headquarters. Since then, there have been numerous issues that have plagued the project including questionable leadership, unclear direction, and engineering difficulties that have forced Apple to change both direction and scope. What has risen from these ashes may be even more ambitious, though, and certainly of interest to both consumers and auto dealerships.

Recently more information has come forth regarding the current iteration of the project from various sources at Apple. At the helm of this new project is Bob Mansfield, under whom Apple has begun building an autonomous driving system instead of an autonomous vehicle. By creating an autonomous driving system, Apple will be able to partner with existing car manufacturers to integrate Apple's system and software into vehicles at the factory, or at dealership service centers such as Brown's Sterling Nissan in the city of Sterling, VA. As an added benefit, the end product is projected to be able to deeply integrate with iOS devices as well.
