The Actev Arrow is a High-Tech Go-Kart with an App

Kids of all ages seem to love racing around in electric go-karts. It can be a thrilling experience but younger children don’t often have the opportunity to take part in the excitement. At Classic Chevrolet, we loved driving the old school go-karts here around Beaumont, TX, but these new high-tech ones are all whole different creation.

Last year, Actev Motors introduced an electric “Smart-Kart” known as the Arrow. The company, based in Mountain View, California, was founded in 2014 by technology leaders who have said that the vehicle was created to be fun, safe and affordable. It is geared specifically for five- to nine-year-olds.

Before young drivers head out to use the high-tech gadget, parents can download the Arrow app on an iOS or Android device to connect to the Smart-Kart using Wi-Fi. Then, the interactive experience begins and parents can control the vehicle remotely.

The Arrow, which was reportedly designed with the help of professional race car drivers, is constructed with two independent 250w electric motors and a steel frame. Pneumatic rubber tires were added to ensure a firm grip on paved surfaces. Running on a smart lithium-ion battery, the Arrow also includes dual speakers, a Wi-Fi antenna and an indication light for braking, driving, reversing and charging.

Safety Features young drivers and their parents can expect:

Speed: The driving speed can be set from 2 mph to 12 mph.

Collision Avoidance: If an obstacle is detected while driving, a collision avoidance system automatically halts the vehicle.

Emergency Stop: The Arrow is equipped with an emergency stop button.

Geo-Fencing: Parents can set up a geographic boundary for their children using geo-fencing. If the vehicle isn’t moving for a specific amount of time, a timer will alert the parent.

Individual Driver Profiles: If more than one child is using the Smart-Kart, the settings and speeds can be set for each.

Gears: Parents can help their child shift from drive to reverse as well as put the Arrow in neutral.

Some of the other highlights of the Arrow include the ability to download engine sounds and monitor driving time, speed and total distance. The pedals can be adjusted as a young driver grows and the vehicle can be personalized with gaming features, accessories and even body kits to spruce up the look.

Before your young driver starts to rev up the engine, don’t forget driving gloves and a helmet!
