Top 5 Car Super Bowl TV Commercials of All-Time

Super Bowl games are among the most watched television broadcasts in the United States and we love to watch the game every year in Beaumont, TX. According to Nielsen, at least 111.3 million people watched the New England Patriots’ victory over the Atlanta Falcons in 2017 during Super Bowl LI.

For some people, the best part about Super Bowl Sunday is watching the television commercials (although don’t say that to die-hard fans!). After the big game, most people compare their favorites and have a good laugh.

The average cost of a 30-second commercial during Super Bowl I in 1996 was $37,500. Fast forward to 2000, and it cost $2.2 million to run an ad during Super Bowl XXXIV. According to reports, the average price of a 30-second ad for the Super Bowl was about $5 million this year. With that amount of money being spent, you’re usually assured of some great commercials.

Here are the top five car Super Bowl TV commercials of all time, brought to you by BMW Of Beaumont:

1.) Nissan Maxima – “Pigeons” 1997

Referencing the movie “Top Gun,” a squadron of animated pigeons follows a Nissan Maxima with Kenny Loggins singing in the background. It definitely brings back memories of that time period.

2.) Ford Mustang GT Convertible – “Green Light” 2005

Ford found a creative way to introduce its S197 Mustang convertible during the winter. The driver has the top down in heavy snow and you can only imagine what happens in the sub-zero temperature.

3.) Audi R8 – “Godfather” 2009

A parody of the “Godfather” movie, a wealthy man wakes up in his bed and realizes he is covered with oil and grease (instead of blood). His car bumper and grill are laying on the foot of the bed (rather than a horse head). The Audi 8 sports car is seen in front of his mansion, racing away.

4.) Volkswagen Passat – “The Force” 2011

Remember “The Force” commercial in 2011? Some say it changed Super Bowl commercials forever. It was released on YouTube the Wednesday before the game and had millions of views. A young kid dresses up as Darth Vader in Star Wars and walks around trying to use the “Dark Side” on everything, including the family’s Passat.

5.) Acura NSX – “Transactions” 2012

Having Jerry Seinfeld and Jay Leno together in a commercial is sure to be a hit—not to mention they are both car collectors. In this Super Bowl ad, Seinfeld tries to do anything to be the first in line to receive the first Acura NSX. Jay Leno flies in at the last minute and is chosen.
